Systemic-Somatic
Trauma Integration
and Process Support
Systemic-Somatic Trauma Integration and Process Support – a cumbersome term, indeed. I would like to take a moment to explain what it means and why each word in it is important to me.
What systemic-somatic integration means to me.
Systemic-somatic trauma integration combines approaches from systemic constellation work with the principles of Somatic Experiencing. This method integrates a systemic perspective on relationships and dynamics with a body-oriented approach to trauma processing. The aim is to foster a deep understanding and sustainable integration of challenging experiences on both the mental and physical levels.
Context
Through difficult, often early imprints, we can fall out of a sense of fundamental connection. These experiences are often so deep – because they occur so early – that our lives are based on principles like isolation and struggle, rather than community and cooperation. These values operate within us as deep beliefs, often without us noticing. Our culture further reinforces this path, where separation is often lived as 'normal'.
Systemic
The environment in which our first life impulses grow is crucial for our imprinting: Do I feel welcomed with my aliveness? Am I okay just as I am? These questions significantly influence whether we develop a sense of safety in our life environment, a feeling of being held in the whole. If this safety is absent, a fragile foundation forms early on, forcing us to deny parts of ourselves.
Important formative influences include the family system, but also cultural paradigms, in which scarcity and hardship are reflected over long periods. Every context in which we are embedded can be considered a system. In my practice, I place special emphasis on working with these systems – including early pre- and perinatal experiences, cultural conditioning, and the inner parts that make up our self.
Somatic
A separation that seems normal in our lives is the separation from our body. Body symptoms are often attempts to process early nameless pains. Our patterns and our suffering are primarily not knowledge about them, but a bodily feeling. Trauma does not refer to the original event, but to the way our body responds to this event in the here and now. New experiences are always bodily. Our deepest self is the embodied self. Therefore, in my work, the body is always included, but never forced into anything. My work with the body is based on trauma therapy Somatic Experiencing (SE) and knowledge of the nervous system, particularly in connection with Polyvagal Theory.
Integrative Approach
We are all shaped in our being. But shaping is also an opportunity. If we manage to change our perspective and not view wounded or wounding parts of ourselves as wrong or something to be gotten rid of, the transformative power of traumatic experiences can reveal itself and true renewal can happen.
A deep and compassionate look at our wounds allows us to sense how much creative potential and life force resides within them. Trauma is not overcome, conquered, or solved, but integrated. From this integration arises a freedom to be 'in order' as the shaped person that one is.
I see the process-oriented path as a reconnection to the fundamental root of being, and I understand my work as guiding people to this place where they can remember their original knowledge and reconnect with it.
Indications
All individuals who have a fundamental willingness to engage more deeply with themselves, take responsibility for themselves, and are open to a change in perspective are welcome. Possible indications include:
